Silk Dyeing Workshop with Shibori

โ‚ฌ60/person

In this 2-hour workshop, Iโ€™ll start by talking about the different types of silk, the materials used to paint or dye it, and the various silk-painting techniques.

Then weโ€™ll dye a 55×55 cm pongee silk neck scarf using the Japanese Shibori technique.

Shibori means โ€œtyingโ€ in Japanese, and it involves blocking dye in certain areas of a fabric using knots (Suji Shibori), pressure (Itajime Shibori), or stitching (Nui Shibori).

Iโ€™ll demonstrate the technique, and each participant will dye their own scarf after choosing the dye colours. At the end of the workshop, weโ€™ll unfold the scarves to see the results, but weโ€™ll leave them at the studio to be set in a steamer. Weโ€™ll have a snack and take photos with the dyed scarves.
