Astarté Fan

Description

The Astarté Fan is a design inspired by the interpretation of the GOLD MEDALLION (6th century BC) found by chance in 1983 at the Santa María del Mar beach site in Cádiz. It depicts a sacred mountain flanked by two uraei (sacred Egyptian cobras), with the lunar orb resting on this sacrum. The scene is crowned by the winged sun, representing the goddess Astarté.

This design, adapted to the format of this large fan popularly known as Pericón, is characterized by the use of color contrasts. Fuchsias and green stand out against the gold yellow, which represents the granulation used in Phoenician jewelry. The blue background evokes the color of the sea, alluding to the origin of the Phoenician people.

I carry out the entire process for each fan in my own workshop, from design, painting the silk piece, steam-setting it, stiffening it, folding it, and mounting it. The frame is of the dagger or ‘puñal’ type due to the shape of its thicker outer ribs, which are straight like a dagger. The wood is kotibe with the “aea” Artisan Spanish Fan seal. The result is a unique and exclusive piece.

Care

We recommend storing the fan folded with its elastic band to maintain the pleats, and placing it in its case for protection.

Materials and Size

The leaf or painted silk fabric attached to the ribs is initially white natural crepe silk. It is painted on a frame before the fan is mounted on the ribs, using special steam-set silk dyes.

The ribs are made of polished kotibe wood with the “aea” Artisan Spanish Fan seal.

The Astarté Hand-Painted Silk Fan has a length of 29 cm.

Shipping times

Orders have a maximum shipping time of 15 days once payment is confirmed, although if in stock they are prepared the same day or the next day from 10:30 to 13:00, once payment is confirmed.

They will be sent by express courier to be received within 2 or 3 days from shipment if within mainland Spain and 3 to 6 days if outside. You will receive a confirmation email when the item is dispatched.

No shipments are made on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
