Description
The Astarte Shawl in hand-painted silk is inspired by the iconography related to the cult of Astarte. Its design is based on one of the Phoenician goldsmith pieces currently housed in the Museum of Cadiz, the GOLD MEDALLION (6th century BC) found by chance in 1983 at the Santa Marรญa del Mar beach site in Cadiz. It depicts a sacred mountain flanked by two uraei (sacred Egyptian cobras), with the lunar orb resting on this sacrum. The scene is crowned by the winged sun, representing the goddess Astartรฉ.
This design, adapted to the shawl format, stands out for its use of color contrasts, with fuchsias and greens combined with golden yellow, evoking the gold used in Phoenician jewelry. The blue backgrounds represent the colors of the sea, as an allusion to the origin of the Phoenician people.
